Workation is a unique blend of work and vacation. It allows employees to leave their usual desks and work in a refreshing new environment. Research published by Forbes shows that performance can rise by up to 40% when people have more autonomy over their location and flexibility in their work-life balance. A workation gives space for productivity and renewal. It helps teams grow stronger, sparks creativity, and brings new energy into daily tasks.

That is why the Iding team decided to bring Sofija Vla’s idea to life and spend a month working together in Malaga. In this blog, we share how it went and what Sofija and her colleagues gained from the experience.

Workation Goals: Sol, Siestas, Success

For Sofija, the workation in Malaga was more than simply working from a new destination. It was a refreshing experience that left a strong impression. She arrived with high hopes, but the reality went beyond her expectations. While some colleagues couldn’t be there at the same time, the group made the most of every moment together.

Some highlights stood out. One evening, the team gathered at Antonio Banderas’ restaurant. Surrounded by good food, laughter, and the Andalusian atmosphere, Sofija saw how quickly bonds form when colleagues spend time together outside the usual work setting. Another highlight was a 40-kilometer cycling trip along the coast with a colleague. The ride tested gave them a chance to connect through a shared challenge.

For Sofija, who values staying active, combining physical effort with sea views created a memory she will not forget. Reflecting on the trip, she says the only thing missing was having the entire team together at once, something she hopes will happen next time to make the experience complete.

Finding Balance, Finding Flow

What made Malaga truly special was the balance between work and free time. The team stayed focused during working hours but also found time for morning walks, afternoons at the beach, and relaxed dinners. This rhythm of structure and freedom renewed their energy. The change of environment made it easier to focus and return to tasks refreshed.

Working side by side also unlocked what remote calls cannot. Communication flowed easily, problems were solved immediately, and ideas were shared openly. Even small details mattered, like the presence of a colleague’s young son, which added warmth and joy to the group. It was a reminder that productivity grows when culture values people as individuals, not only as professionals.

Stronger as a Team

The days in Malaga created more than memories, they changed how the team worked together. Time outside the usual work setting built trust and stronger relationships. The atmosphere became supportive and cohesive. Sofija noticed that the trip gave the team more confidence, independence, and determination; qualities that lasted well beyond the experience. What she learned on a personal level was just as important. “Communication is the foundation of everything,” she explained. Clear expression and teamwork, she realized, are the true pillars of a successful company. She also saw how a change of environment can shift perspective. In accounting, where quarterly cycles often repeat, it is easy to feel stuck. A different setting breaks the routine and brings new energy and ideas.

Results You Can Feel and See

Beyond good memories, the workation provided Sofija and her colleagues with results they could see. By Q2, the team had already seen clear progress. Their shared effort and renewed motivation turned into measurable outcomes, showing that when people feel energized and connected, the quality of work improves naturally.

Looking back, Sofija has no doubt: work and enjoyment can go together. The Malaga trip refreshed routines, strengthened relationships, and kept the focus on delivering excellent work. That is why she hopes it will become a tradition and a regular part of the team’s culture.

Most of all, there is gratitude to IDiNG for making the experience possible and for proving that investing in people leads to stronger collaboration, more energy, and real growth. For Sofija, it meant personal and professional development. For the team, it was proof that a bold idea can shape the way people work together.

Looking Ahead

The Malaga workation showed what is possible when trust, initiative, and openness guide teamwork. Sofija’s idea became a shared experience that brought joy and left a lasting impact on team spirit and results.

For young professionals in accounting, stories like this show how much depends on the culture a team creates. At IDiNG, that means giving people the space to grow beyond routine tasks, to learn every day, and to see their ideas turned into reality.

Becky’s goal is to connect that culture with talent in the Balkans so that colleagues like Sofija can contribute, develop, and thrive in international teams. When both sides work together in this way, professional growth and team success naturally follow.
