When did you start working at Becky and what is your position here?

I started working here in November 2020. I am currently in a team of 4, with room for the team to grow. I started as a junior accountant and after a year, I became a medior accountant.

What does this mean in terms of the scope of work?

The scope of work is pretty much the same, it’s the clients that are different. We all do the same tasks but if you’re new you get clients with easier cases. The more experience you get, the more complex are the clients you work with. There is, of course, always an option to consult with all the coworkers and managers if there’s anything you’re unsure of.

The amazing thing about managers here is that all hard work is noticed, your will to learn and improve is always welcomed, and it’s truly stimulating.

Why did you choose accounting? What can you tell us about it?

Whenever I talk about this job, I tell people: “accounting may never be anyone’s dream job, but what’s important is who you surround yourself with and that you enjoy coming to work”. That’s what I found here.

Accounting can be interesting. You learn something new almost every day. Something you never came across can just happen and you have to learn how to deal with it.

Here, for example, we had to learn the Dutch tax system. So, in addition to knowing ours, we now know this foreign tax system that differs from the Serbian one. It’s fun to compare the differences sometimes.

The reason why I love working here so much: people are amazing, knowledgeable, fun, and down to earth.

Dutch people seem to be very easy-going, fun, relaxed.

Would you say that’s the best thing about working at Becky?

For me, yes.

That, and the way business is done here.

I’ll give you an example:

When we interview new clients, they seem to choose people similar to themselves. So if they like to have fun while working, they get the team that can match their energy. It’s as if our teams are mirroring the clients, even before we meet. When you walk around the office, you can almost sense the difference in each team. Some dress casually, some have highly organized desks, etc.

I am very happy with my team. They are easy-going, fun at work, yet very hard working and ambitious. We have time to joke around and bond, but also be productive and get the job done. It’s amazing.

The HR really works hard here, too. They always try to create more benefits for us, and truly treasure us. This is something that is unusual nowadays, and I want to give them a shout-out.

What about some fun experience you had with a client at Becky?

We met some of our clients in person for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I have caught up on sleep just last week! It was a very interesting and busy week.

We would go to work in the morning, then take them out after work. We ate, drank, went for walks, showed them the city, took them to a club…it was very fun and a wonderful experience.

I think it worked out that well because we’re similar and they chose us well.

Dutch people seem to be very easy-going, fun, relaxed. They joke, but also show great respect.

Do you have any tips in how to turn a bad day at work into a good day at work?

To be honest, since I started working here, I didn’t have a single bad day at work. I did have some hard weeks, where there was lots of work to be done, so I felt more pressure to get everything done and done well.

What works great for me as of late is to wait for Friday, and then, after work - whoever is at the office that day - we go to a bar across the street for a beer and we play a few games of darts. I always look forward to it.

I like spending time with my coworkers! Even though I spend 8 hours each day with them, I could spend more. I’m looking forward to our teambuilding that’s coming up soon.

What about your previous experience?

Prior to this, I worked in revision for about a year and a half. And let me tell you, it’s a completely different story.

It’s stressful, the work atmosphere was terrible, I was not having a good time. You’d have to be careful how you talk and who you talk to.

When I came here, it even took me a while to relax, because of that previous experience. Maybe that’s what makes me even more grateful for having such wonderful peers and work atmosphere.

From all the people in my personal life, I am the one most pleased with my work.

What part of Belgrade would you recommend to someone coming here for the first time?

Kalemegdan park and Belgrade fortress, especially during sundown. That’s something everyone should see.

Another thing to see is the church of Saint Sava, as it’s a work of art.

I’d also recommend a walk around Zemun; Crouse, cocktail bar with cocktails from Rakija; and Skadarlija, of course.

…and Pejton pub on Fridays with the Becky crew!

How would you describe Becky in three words?

(1) Easy-going (but meticulous in their work) (2) Visioners (achieved a lot since they started) (3) A shining star on a labour market (they treat people with respect)

Cat-person or a dog-person?

Horse-person!

I love all animals. When I was a kid, we always had cats, dogs, and I’d bring home new ones every other day (to my dad’s dismay). At one point, we had 3 cats, each had 10 kittens. Sounds like heaven, but it wasn’t really.

I really wish to one day have a dobermann. And cats? Always.

So, I’d say animal-person.
